A massive capacity increase and blend of licensed and unlicensed spectrum deliver fiber-class service anywhere, even in high-density markets.
SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Tarana announced today the general availability of G2, the company’s latest groundbreaking advance in next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA). G2 builds on the success of Tarana’s G1 platform, the world’s first ngFWA solution, introduced in 2021. More than 300 operators worldwide are now using Tarana’s ngFWA technology to deliver reliable, fiber-class broadband to hundreds of thousands of subscribers. G1-powered operators’ combined coverage footprint now reaches more than 20 million homes and businesses worldwide.
Basil Alwan, Tarana CEO, shared, “G1 proved that wireless technology can deliver a no-compromise broadband experience, and our customers’ rapid growth and low churn rates underscore this reality. G2 ups the ante, allowing even denser deployments of gigabit services at scale. Hybrid networks — featuring both fiber and ngFWA — are the future.”
A new benchmark in high-performance wireless access, the G2 platform comprises:
- 6.4 Gbps of capacity per G2 sector, supporting up to 2,048 customers per site (512 per sector) with 100 Mbps–1 Gbps services
- 160 MHz in four separable carriers across unlicensed and licensed bands in a single integrated radio — an industry first
- Dual-resonant antennas and wide-band RF silicon that enable simultaneous carriers in 3 GHz CBRS, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz spectrum in any combination, with full carrier aggregation
- Further gains in Tarana’s industry-leading spectral efficiency for FWA, enabled by a unique distributed massive MIMO architecture and real-time interference cancellation
- Programmable downlink/uplink ratios per sector with no spectral efficiency loss
- Easy upgrades for dense G1 sectors — supporting all previous-generation RNs
- The robust feature set of G1, including Self Organizing Network (SON) tools. For example, “Primary BN” orchestrates autonomous failover and rule-based reversion should a tower go offline — all fully managed by Tarana Cloud Suite
- A deployment architecture that is fully compatible with fiber/PON infrastructure — no need for a complex packet core or costly mobility-centric systems
Along with the G2 Base Node (BN), Tarana also announced a new Remote Node (RN), the RNm. Like the G2 BN, the RNm features an integrated dual-resonant multi-band radio supporting four carriers across 3 GHz CBRS, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands.
“G1 has been a game-changer for us in rural and small-town deployments,” said Matt Murphy, CEO of unWired. “But the unfolding story is our expansion into denser areas where we can now compete with DSL, cable, and even fiber. Customers are increasingly focused on reliability and customer experience — with Tarana, we can deliver 500 Mbps and even gigabit services, taking speed concerns off the table.”
Bill Baker, CEO of Nextlink, remarked, “With G1’s unparalleled reach, performance, and reliability that today’s market demands, Tarana created a new future for FWA. As a result, fiber and G1 have become our go-to solutions fueling subscriber growth. Early field results from our G2 deployments are now confirming what we’ve believed all along — ngFWA is poised to become a key pillar of broadband access for the long haul.”
Jonathan Kini, CEO of Twist Broadband, noted, “Customers just want high-performance WiFi that works across all their devices — they don’t really care how it is delivered. With Tarana’s ngFWA products, we get wireless economics with rock-solid reliability and incredible speeds. Most importantly, we can scale the service at a fraction of the cost and time of previous options.”
Sergiu Nedevschi, CSO and Co-Founder of Tarana, added, “We’ve spent four years building G2 — implementing many unique innovations in multi-band antenna design and signal processing to make its unrivaled performance possible. It is gratifying to see it all come together, enabling our customers to grow and compete in a range of mainstream markets.”
The G2 BN is available now and the RNm will be available in October 2025. For more information, visit https://taranawireless.com/g2/.
