WINNIPEG, MB, Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Deep borehole inspections usually involve a practical compromise: operators require a long cable and a good camera, but the larger the system, the more equipment there is to transport, the longer the setup takes, and the more effort is needed in the field. The STRAHL HD borehole camera overcomes this problem by having a compact, battery-operated design and can now be fitted with a motorized winch.
The STRAHL HD model is suitable for boreholes with diameters between 2 and 80 inches and features a 1.77-inch dual-camera head that enables inspection of both the borehole bottom and its sidewalls. The camera that provides side views performs continuous 360° panning and has dedicated LEDs that help reveal the condition of the casing, including corrosion, deposits, areas where groundwater is entering, foreign objects, and other visible features. The camera head, with an IP68 rating, can withstand pressures up to 30 bar in fresh water.
Carrying out more detailed inspections can make the normally simple task quite physically demanding, since the cable must be handled manually over hundreds of feet. The new motorized winch makes it easier to deploy and retrieve the cable, which is 656 ft (200 m) or 984 ft (300 m) long. A built-in counter in the footage allows operators to track how deep the camera has gone and link the results to its position.
Even though it offers a wide range of capabilities, STRAHL HD remains a portable field system. It can be transported by one person in a standard vehicle and carried out without a special inspection van. The use of a rechargeable battery, a 13-inch HD monitor, and built-in photo and video recording capabilities enables it to inspect and record boreholes directly on site.
