Supports Nearly 13,700 Jobs Across the Commonwealth
$5.6 Billion Annual Impact Fueling Pennsylvaniaโs Economic Strength
$4 million invested in communities through giving, service, and partnerships
PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–United States Steel Corporation (โU. S. Steelโ) today released the ๏ฌndings of its latest economic impact report for Pennsylvania, underscoring the companyโs powerful and growing role in advancing the Commonwealthโs economy, workforce, and communities. The analysis, conducted by Parker Strategy Group, shows that in Fiscal Year 2024, U. S. Steel generated $5.6 billion in total economic impact, supported 13,687 jobs statewide, and contributed $216 million in total tax revenues across the local and state level. This analysis re๏ฌects U. S. Steelโs current Pennsylvania operations and excludes future capital investment associated with the Nippon Steel partnership, which is expected to modernize facilities, strengthen Pennsylvaniaโs manufacturing base, and support additional jobs and economic activity.
For more than a century, U. S. Steel has been an essential part of Pennsylvaniaโs identity and industrial strength. From its Pittsburgh headquarters to Mon Valley Works and beyond, U. S. Steel continues to power Pennsylvaniaโs economy while investing in innovation, sustainability, and community partnerships that strengthen the region for generations to come.
โPennsylvania is where U. S. Steel was built and where we continue to invest,โ said David B. Burritt, President and Chief Executive O๏ฌcer of U. S. Steel. โWe are not just participating in Pennsylvaniaโs economy; we are helping to power it. A $5.6 billion economic impact re๏ฌects the steady foundation of our operationsโjobs, suppliers, and sustainable steelmaking that strengthens communities across the Commonwealthโalongside continued investment for long-term competitiveness.โ
Measured against Pennsylvaniaโs broader economy, U. S. Steelโs impact is signi๏ฌcant at multiple levels. The company supports 13,687 jobs statewide, comparable to the full civilian labor force of a smaller Pennsylvania county. Its $5.6 billion economic impact equals roughly 0.6% of Pennsylvania GDP (about $1 out of every $180 in the state economy), translating to approximately $15.3 million per day in economic activity. On a per-resident basis, that amounts to about $428 per Pennsylvanian. For scale, $5.6 billion is also roughly 11.8% of the Commonwealthโs enacted 2024/25 General Fund appropriations. In Pittsburgh terms, $5.6 billion represents an annual level of economic activity comparable to major regional investments, and U. S. Steel delivers that impact year after year.
