TD Charitable Foundation Opens Applications for $10M in Grants for Nonprofits Helping Renters Stay Housed

Housing for Everyone grant program kicks off as it marks its 20th anniversary

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–TD Charitable Foundation, the giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, today announced $10 million in available grants of $250,000 each through its 20th annual Housing for Everyone grant initiative, marking the largest investment in its history. The 2026 initiative focuses on eviction prevention and early intervention strategies to promote long-term housing stability for renters in low- to moderate-income communities.

Renters today can face a myriad of compounding challenges, including missed recertifications, sudden income loss, lack of legal protection, and difficulty navigating lease terms. Through the Housing for Everyone program, the TD Charitable Foundation will award grants to select nonprofit organizations that deploy solutions intended to prevent eviction before a crisis occurs.

“Housing remains a critical issue across our footprint and beyond, and a key step to mitigating the issue is providing early intervention tools and education to those most vulnerable,” said Paige Carlson-Heim, Head of Social Impact at TD Bank. “As we mark 20 years of the Housing for Everyone grant program, we recognize that lasting change in housing stability requires an ongoing commitment, and we are proud to support the organizations driving change through education, legal support, and more.”

Housing For Everyone’s 20-year Evolution

Since 2005, Housing for Everyone has provided more than $63 million to over 630 affordable housing initiatives.

In this 20-year period, home prices and rents have increased by 65% and 20% respectively, while median household income saw almost no growth, underscoring the widening affordability gap. TD Charitable Foundation has served as a consistent advocate for affordable housing options, providing grants annually to nonprofit organizations across the bank’s footprint that support communities with the creation, preservation, and development of affordable housing options.

Through focus groups, TD identifies communities’ top challenges to ensure each year’s grants address the most pressing issues. And as demand on affordable housing providers increases, the Housing for Everyone program also ensures organizations are positioned for capacity building to meet the growing needs of their communities. For example, during the 2021 cycle, the program focused on ensuring housing organizations could continue to provide critical resources and assistance for those in need. TD awarded $5.8 million that year to 33 organizations across the bank’s footprint, including to Wesley Housing, a seven-time grantee, ensuring nonprofits could use the funding to expand services and help individuals and families keep or find safe, affordable housing.

“These grants have provided the resources we need to best support our communities across Virginia and Washington, D.C.,” said Kamilah McAfee, President & CEO at Wesley Housing. “Challenges for community members facing housing instability have reached critical levels in recent years. TD’s grant helped us to meet the moment, expanding our services so we could continue building up individuals’ and families’ lives.”
