Construction sites are some of the most chaotic and dangerous workplaces in the world – one company is betting that AI-powered video agents can bring structure, safety, and speed to the job.
Spot AI, which has already gained traction in manufacturing and logistics, is now doubling down on construction. Its platform lets companies create custom video agents that act like 24/7 site supervisors, detecting safety and security risks across active job sites without anyone needing to be physically present.
“It’s like having a safety manager on every site at once,” Spot’s co-founder and CEO Rish Gupta said in a statement to AI Journal.
Spot’s system doesn’t just watch, it learns. Site supervisors can define custom zones, upload safety protocols, and train the AI to recognize context-specific risks like missing PPE, unsafe machinery operation, slip/fall hazards, or even when a ladder’s been left unsecured. If something goes wrong, Spot’s system instantly flags the incident and tags relevant footage, cutting what used to take hours of manual review down to seconds.
“It’s often a 10x efficiency gain,” said a company spokesperson. “Managers no longer have to scrub through footage, they just search,” noted Gupta.
With the launch of its new Iris system, Spot customers can go further: build custom AI video agents in minutes for a near unlimited number of safety or security situations.
Deployment is fast, too. Spot AI runs on almost any internet-connected camera system, and the company has partnered with VigilanteX, the maker of solar-powered, Starlink-enabled surveillance trailers and mounts that can be installed even in the most remote environments.
“During nearly four decades of service in the U.S. military, I saw the critical importance of actionable intelligence,” said Brian Cavanaugh, CEO of VigilanteX. “Spot AI brings that same clarity to construction, delivering continuous oversight and operationalizing safety to save lives.”
Spot claims many customers in the constriction field including AECOM Hunt, a leading construction firm with over 900 million square feet of project experience.
“By using AI-driven mobile surveillance systems, we are redefining how we create safer, more streamlined environments,” said Jack Robertson, Safety Director for AECOM Hunt’s Western Region. “This technology gives us the visibility and real-time insights needed to uphold the highest standards of safety and efficiency.”
Beyond safety, Spot AI believes its video agents will soon help with broader site optimization—tracking materials handling, crew coordination, and even identifying efficiency gaps before they cost time or money.
“The line between camera and co-worker is starting to blur,” said Gupta. “This isn’t just surveillance, it’s site intelligence.”
