Expansion of over $100 million will double production capacity and support customers in fast-growing southeast US region
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Saint-Gobain, through its building product subsidiary CertainTeed Roofing, today held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of major expansion activities at its CertainTeed Roofing manufacturing facility in Peachtree City, Georgia. First announced in 2022, the project has doubled the site’s production capacity, enabling the company to manufacture additional roofing shingles for customers in the fast-growing southeast United States.
The event, hosted at the facility, included remarks from Saint-Gobain North America President and CEO Mark Rayfield, and DJ Damberger, President of CertainTeed Roofing. In addition, the facility was honored to host Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Niki Vanderslice, President and CEO of Fayette County Development Authority, both key supporters and partners on the project. The speakers were joined in celebration by the construction team, customers and members of the Peachtree City and Fayette County community.
By some estimates, the United States will need an additional four million homes by 2030 to meet demand. In Georgia alone, it is estimated that over 365,000 additional homes will be needed statewide. The project was generously supported with more than $5 million in state and local tax incentives realized over the next decade.
The plant, which first began operations in 1976, is one of the largest employers in Peachtree City and is one of ten Saint-Gobain facilities throughout Georgia, where the company also produces siding, insulation, ceiling, technical textile and construction chemical solutions. Today’s announcement comes as Saint-Gobain continues to strengthen its presence in North America, now one of Saint-Gobain’s largest markets by revenue. Other recent investments include:
- In October, Saint-Gobain, through its subsidiary CertainTeed Interior Products Group, completed expansion activities at its CertainTeed Gypsum Plant in Palatka, Florida, making it the largest gypsum wallboard facility in the world.
- In September, Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed Canada celebrated the completion of expansion activities at its gypsum wallboard facility in Sainte-Catherine, Quebec, outside of Montreal. This project included the complete electrification of the facility, making it the first net-zero gypsum wallboard plant (scopes 1 and 2) in North America and the largest in the world.
- CertainTeed Roofing is nearing completion on a new glass mat facility in Oxford, North Carolina and construction is underway on a new distribution facility in Bryan, Texas, both of which will further support the fast-growing market in the southern United States.
