ResumeBuilder.com Survey: 3 in 10 Companies Will Eliminate Remote Work by 2026

Hybrid remains common, but more employers plan to increase required in-office days next year

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, Oct. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — ResumeBuilder.com, the premier resource for professional resume templates and career advice, has published a new survey report examining companies’ return-to-office (RTO) plans for 2026. The findings show that while hybrid work remains the norm, more companies will increase required in-office days and reduce remote options. In total, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 978 business leaders in October 2025.

According to the report, 3 in 10 companies will eliminate remote work entirely by 2026. Nearly half will require employees to be in the office at least four days a week, and 1 in 8 plan to increase in-office days next year. Among those increasing requirements, 64% say it’s to strengthen company culture, 62% to improve productivity, and 45% to maximize office space.

“Many leaders claim to support hybrid work but are calling employees back more often because of underlying pressures and old habits,” says Chief Career Advisor Stacie Haller. “They equate visibility with productivity and fear losing culture and collaboration. Executives still say ‘hybrid,’ but often mean structured office days rather than true flexibility.”

Despite the push for more in-person work, fewer than one-third of companies offer incentives to encourage attendance. Only 28% provide any benefits for returning to the office, such as social events (55%), catered meals (51%), or commuter support (51%).

This survey was commissioned by ResumeBuilder.com and conducted online via the polling platform Pollfish in October 2025. A total of 978 U.S. business leaders completed the survey.
