CARB recently approved regulations implementing the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253) and the Climate-Related Financial Risk Act (SB 261), requiring large companies doing business in California to disclose greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks. Companies with over $1 billion in annual revenue must begin reporting Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by August 10, 2026, with Scope 3 emissions reporting starting in 2027.
These requirements place new emphasis on traceability, auditability, and verification — requiring companies to move beyond estimates and demonstrate, with supporting data, where emissions occur, how materials are handled, and what outcomes are achieved across third-party partners and downstream processes.
