SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Psyx Research, Inc., a leader in immersive audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, today announced the availability of Psyxās next generation hemispherical rendering algorithms on Cadence Tensilica HiFi DSPs for Audio, Voice, Speech and AI, enabling rapid integration of Psyx algorithms to support immersive playback of all stereo content, without the need for physical height channels.
Psyxās first-to-market wireless immersive audio solutions on Bluetooth SoCs utilizing the family of Tensilica HiFi DSPs are shipping now worldwide. Licensees are able to develop products ranging from headphones to multichannel systems with four or more virtual height channels, compatible with all legacy stereo content, including vinyl. Psyxās new virtual height image map technology extracts and renders height information in real time to devices with any number of channels or configuration, removing the need for physical height speakers or specific mixing formats that depend on metadata for sound positioning.
āWe have seen recent rapid expansion of the immersive audio market despite the technology and infrastructure barriers to delivery. Our hemispherical rendering system was developed with interoperability at its core, ensuring discrete three-dimensional playback from any stereo source – no metadata or encoder required,ā said Mark Reasinger, CEO of Psyx Research, Inc. āCadence Tensilica HiFi DSPs are integral to our global ecosystem across multiple markets and semiconductor partners, making them an easy choice for our first implementations of Psyx 3D. Our strong relationship with Cadence continues to result in faster time-to-market and optimum performance for our customers.ā
Psyx engineers find Cadenceās Tensilica HiFi DSPs and Tensilica Xtensa Processors instrumental in bringing Psyxās advanced algorithms to market. Cycle-accurate simulation enables rapid profiling and optimization of core functions, while the tools provide full functional visibility into the processing budget at all hierarchical levels. Leveraging Tensilica HiFi DSP intrinsics within Psyxās proprietary libraries enable more operations per cycle, delivering maximum performance, while the highly optimized NatureDSP library supports additional advanced mathematical operations. The Tensilica HiFi DSP architecture is well-structured, thoroughly documented, and straightforward to apply, enabling seamless integration of Psyx immersive technologies.
āWith its industry-leading performance and energy profile, the Cadence Tensilica HiFi DSP family is an ideal platform for pioneering innovation in audio, voice, speech and AI applications at the edge,ā said Prakash Madhvapathy, Product Marketing Director at Cadence. āOur partnership with Psyx has enabled them to offer efficient implementations of their metadata-free 3D rendering algorithms to run on the vast deployment of Tensilica HiFi DSPs in headphones, TWS earbuds, TVs, soundbars, and smart speakers. Consumers no longer content with the stereo listening experience can immerse themselves in rich three-dimensional sound rendered through a variety of speaker configurations.ā
Psyx Hemispherical Rendering Benefits:
- Next generation image map technology delivers discrete 3D image regardless of the number of input or output channels
- No metadata required
- No encoding required
- All Tensilica HiFi DSPs supported
Licensees leveraging Tensilica HiFi DSPs for audio also benefit from Psyxās tuning and integration support, ensuring the highest possible quality of experience on devices powered by Psyx technology.
