OEM Controls Powers Toward Energy Independence With Budderfly’s Turnkey Energy Solution

Project underscores Budderfly’s role as the go-to partner for growing manufacturers facing urgent demand for cost-effective, turnkey energy solutions.

SHELTON, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Budderfly, one of the fastest growing energy companies in the US, and OEM Controls, a leader in design and development of electrohydraulic controllers for over 55 years, today announced a large-scale energy efficiency partnership expected to cut the facility’s annual energy use by more than 30%.

Through the turnkey agreement with Budderfly, OEM Controls’ 75,000-square-foot Shelton facility will receive a significantly upgraded energy infrastructure, including a new rooftop solar system with 230 kWdc of capacity, replacement of 18 outdated HVAC units with ultra-high performance models, and extensive LED lighting retrofits. These improvements will contribute to a brighter, safer, and more comfortable work environment for employees and bolster system reliability by minimizing downtime and increasing site productivity. Budderfly will manage energy performance so OEM can stay focused on meeting its business goals and serving customers.

For mid-sized manufacturers like OEM Controls, energy costs are a growing challenge. Connecticut’s average commercial electricity rate was 23.34 cents/kWh in May 2025, up significantly from 19.42 cents/kWh in May 2024, an annual increase of 20.2%, among the steepest in the nation. The manufacturing sector also remains one of the most challenging to decarbonize due to energy-intensive operations, long equipment lifecycles, and the high cost and disruption of upgrades.

More than a cost-saving milestone, the project demonstrates how mid-sized manufacturers can cut energy use, lower utility bills, and reduce emissions immediately, all without upfront capital investment. By implementing cutting-edge energy solutions and removing the barrier of upfront investment, Budderfly enables manufacturers to strengthen competitiveness, contribute to state climate goals, capture immediate savings, and advance long-term sustainability.

“Aging infrastructure and rising energy costs are common challenges in manufacturing, and partnering with Budderfly is helping us address both head-on,” said Keith Simons, co-president of OEM Controls. “By modernizing our systems, we’re proving that even mid-sized manufacturers can take decisive, cost-effective steps toward a more sustainable, resilient future.”

The project will also integrate Budderfly’s real-time energy monitoring and data management platform, allowing OEM Controls to track savings and verify emissions reductions to comply with detailed sustainability reporting requests from major customers. This visibility will help the company demonstrate measurable progress toward sustainability goals while identifying additional opportunities to reduce costs and environmental impact.

“This partnership proves that the future of manufacturing isn’t decades away, it’s happening right now,” said Al Subbloie, CEO of Budderfly. “We’re showing that you can transform a facility’s energy infrastructure overnight with no upfront cost, no complexity, and immediate impact. As energy costs and supply chain pressures mount, the manufacturers that move first will win. Budderfly is giving them the power to do that today, and we believe our model redefines competitiveness for the entire mid-market.”

The visionary project follows Budderfly’s recent milestone work with another Connecticut-based manufacturer, underscoring the company’s momentum in delivering cost-effective, turnkey energy solutions across one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize. As rising energy costs, stricter sustainability requirements, and the growing urgency to modernize infrastructure reshape the manufacturing landscape, Budderfly’s model offers a clear path for mid-sized companies to stay competitive while making meaningful progress on sustainability. Across the United States, Budderfly delivers energy-as-a-service solutions for its nearly 8,000 customer sites, helping businesses respond to rising energy costs, meet sustainability requirements, and address the growing urgency to decarbonize.
