Modern artificial intelligence (AI) is measured in parameters and benchmarks, but it runs on open source code. The overwhelming majority of AI implementations run on Linux, an open source operating system that dominates the server market. Additionally, much of the surrounding stack – training frameworks, inference engines, orchestration layers and data pipelines, among many others – is open source as well.
WordPress is a highly popular, open-source content management system (CMS) used to build and manage websites. Due to its popularity, an ecosystem has grown to surround and support it.
Novamira acts as an open-source, vendor-neutral bridge that connects AI agents directly to WordPress development or staging environments. Instead of limiting users to a specific host or local app, it gives tools like Claude or Cursor full stack access to write PHP code, run WordPress Command Line Interface (WP-CLI) commands and query databases without copy-pasting. Developers can securely monitor these AI interactions through a recoverable sandbox environment that limits code execution times.
While open source software powers much of the Internet, its websites, networks and e-commerce platforms, it also carries patent risk capable of stalling innovation.
Founded in 2005, OIN is the only organization solely dedicated to mitigating patent risk in open source software, and it operates the largest active patent cross-license ever assembled. Through participation in OIN 2.0, Novamira aims to support open innovation while strengthening a collaborative framework that mitigates the patent risks tied to open source technologies.
“We built Novamira in the open, and we want it to stay that way. Joining OIN protects that: for us, and for everyone building alongside us,” said Giovanni Cintolo, Co-Founder of Novamira.
The numbers behind OIN’s community are considerable. Its membership now exceeds 4,200 organizations, which together account for more than 3 million patents and applications. That breadth delivers a defensive shield no single firm could build alone.
Launched in 2026, OIN 2.0 marks the organization’s evolution into a sustainable, shared funding model. The model lets OIN expand patent protection as open source software spreads across new technologies and industries, from the AI stack to automotive systems. It delivers continuously refreshed protection to the community, broadens the range of technologies it covers and reinforces the model to meet the demands of the years ahead.
“Artificial intelligence, also known as super intelligence (SI), continues to experience accelerated growth rates. Its growth, mass development and use among the open source community is incredible,” said Keith Bergelt, CEO of Open Invention Network. “Our community continues to grow and protect the foundational technologies that support the open source software ecosystem. We are pleased Novamira has joined our patent non-aggression community.”
For Novamira the strategy and move to join OIN 2.0 is progressive. As websites become dynamic AI-driven platforms – and as AI moves deeper into how those platforms interact, decide and execute workflows – the company is securing the legal freedom to build on open source without the threat of patent litigation.
