$500,000 Total Funding to Support 25 School Districts Implementing IAQ, Energy, and Water Monitoring
VIENNA, Va., April 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Attune today announced the launch of a new national initiative, the Future-Ready Facilities Grant, a cohort program selecting 25 school districts to implement indoor air quality (IAQ), energy, and water monitoring technologies and reporting practices that help districts measure building performance, prioritize maintenance and capital planning, and transparently communicate progress.
The program provides $500,000 total in support across the cohort. Applications open April 1, 2026 and close May 15, 2026. Evaluations will be completed by May 31, winners selected June 1, and announced June 15.
The initiative is designed to address a growing challenge across the U.S.: aging school facilities that lack visibility into critical building performance metrics.
The launch aligns with rising attention on school facility conditions. A March 2026 congressional briefing on “Indoor Air Quality for a Healthier America” emphasized indoor air quality as a growing public policy priority, noting that indoor air remains comparatively underregulated and underfunded even as momentum builds. At the state level, Virginia law requires periodic HVAC inspections that include physical measurements of outside-air delivery and verification of COâ‚‚ sensors, and requires school divisions to make reports publicly available online. Rhode Island’s H5597 proposes recurring school IAQ inspections with measurements of temperature, humidity, COâ‚‚, and particulate matter (PM2.5/PM10), alongside ventilation and filtration considerations.
“Schools are being asked to meet higher standards for air quality, energy efficiency, and transparency without the budgets to match,” said Dr. Serene Almomen, Attune CEO. “This program helps close that gap by giving districts what they need to get started, prove what’s possible, and create a track record that state and local leaders can point to when it’s time to fund these efforts at scale.”
Submissions will be evaluated with support from partners including the Center for Green Schools, Green Schools National Network, the 21st Century School Fund, and the International WELL Building Institute. These partners bring expertise in healthy buildings, equity, and long-term infrastructure planning.
The program encourages applications from:
- Title I and underserved districts
- Tribal schools
- Districts facing infrastructure or budget constraintsÂ
By prioritizing impact and need, the grant aims to ensure resources reach communities where they can make the greatest difference.
Community members—including students, parents, and educators—can also participate by nominating their school district.
Applications are now open and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Due to limited availability, districts are encouraged to apply early.
