Three-day event brought together top university students to design AI-driven solutions for real-world healthcare challenges, marking a milestone in Moxie Health’s mission to bridge technology and patient care.
SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AIinHealthcare–The Moxie Health Group hosted its inaugural Moxiethon Hackathon, a three-day innovation challenge uniting more than 50 computer science students from leading Honduran universities to develop healthcare technology solutions using the company’s proprietary platform, Moxie-Link.
Held from September 25–27, the event centered on the theme “AI in Healthcare,” challenging participants to identify real-world issues in patient care and propose solutions to improve outcomes and efficiency. Students formed interdisciplinary teams, attended workshops, and collaborated with mentors across healthcare and technology sectors.
“This hackathon was about more than coding,” said Dr. Gustavo Ferrer, Founder and CEO of The Moxie Health Group and Dr. Ferrer BioPharma. “It was about empowering young technologists in Honduras to design solutions that bridge innovation with compassion—connecting data, caregivers, and patients in ways that make care more human and effective.”
Event Highlights
Throughout the weekend, participants transformed ideas into impact—beginning with networking and team-building sessions that encouraged creativity and collaboration. They explored Moxie Health’s mission and the capabilities of Moxie-Link, an operational excellence platform connecting care teams through real-time data and performance insights.
Guided by Moxie Health engineers and physicians, teams developed solutions during interactive workshops such as “Building AI for Better Care” and “Perfecting Your Pitch.” The hackathon concluded with live demos before a panel of judges who evaluated innovation, impact, and execution.
The winning team — Roberto Carlos Garay Logan and Luis Fernando Bautista Castellanos — created an automated system that analyzes calls between on-call agents and facility nurses, generating real-time summaries sent directly to the appropriate nurse practitioner’s device. The system will be integrated into Moxie-Link to improve communication efficiency and patient care coordination.
Innovation with Impact
“Moxiethon reflects our commitment to innovation and community development,” said Dr. Alfonso Ortega, Chief Technology Officer at MoxieLink. “By engaging local talent, we’re enhancing Moxie-Link’s capabilities while giving young engineers the chance to shape the future of healthcare technology.”
The winning team will continue developing their project within Moxie Health, advancing the company’s mission to improve long-term respiratory and patient care outcomes.
Looking ahead, Moxie Health plans to expand Moxiethon 2026 to include more participants and new challenges in digital health, data analytics, and AI-driven care.
