Minviro LCA Report Finds OneD Battery Sciences’ SINANODE® Silicon Anode Technology Can Reduce EV Battery Pack Carbon Footprint by 35%

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — OneD Battery Sciences (“OneD”) announces the completion of a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its SINANODE® silicon anode technology applied to graphite anode materials for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The study, conducted by Minviro, a globally recognized leader in LCA for businesses in the energy transition, quantifies the sustainability benefits of enhancing graphite feedstock materials with SINANODE®. The findings confirm that SINANODE® has significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption compared to conventional anode materials.

Minviro applied a rigorous, science-based approach to assess SINANODE®’s environmental performance, delivering an ISO-14040 and ISO-14044 compliant LCA report for battery materials and clean technology supply chains.

Key Findings from the Minviro Report

  • When SINANODE®-enhanced graphite is processed in North America or Europe, it can significantly improve anode performance while reducing the cost and carbon footprint of today’s EV batteries, fortifying the establishment of a competitive local supply chain.
  • Anode materials are used to store electrical energy in batteries, and the energy storage capacity is measured in kAh. Applying SINANODE® to EV-grade natural graphite reduces the anode material’s carbon footprint (kg CO₂-eq) per kAh by more than 90%, compared to the conventional graphite blends used in today’s batteries, and by 35% of the battery pack carbon footprint.

“Minviro’s independent LCA validates the environmental benefits of SINANODE®, providing our customers and partners with a scientifically robust and third-party verified assessment of its sustainability,” said Vincent Pluvinage, CEO and Co-founder of OneD Battery Sciences.

Minviro’s methodologies adhere to the highest industry standards, including the EU Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method, and align with evolving global regulatory frameworks, such as the EU Battery Regulation. This ensures that the results are not only credible but also actionable for investors, manufacturers, and policymakers navigating the transition to low-carbon battery supply chains.

“OneD Battery Sciences’ proactive approach to assessing its environmental footprint underscores the industry’s growing need for validated, data-driven insights,” said Robert Pell, CEO and Founder of Minviro. “Our role as an independent LCA practitioner is to provide transparent, high-quality assessments that help companies like OneD make informed, sustainability-focused decisions.”

The findings from this LCA position SINANODE® as a sustainable solution to improve the environmental impact of graphite anodes in lithium batteries by enhancing conventional graphite material with silicon nanowires.

OneD is currently licensing SINANODE® to major industrial partners in the EV battery supply chain, enabling faster market adoption at lower risk by leveraging the proven manufacturing capabilities of established industry players.
