Lieutenant General Laura Potter, USA (Ret.) Joins Academy Securities’ Advisory Board and Geopolitical Intelligence Group

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Academy Securities, the nation’s first Post-9/11 veteran owned and operated investment bank, today announced the addition of Lieutenant General Laura Potter to its Geopolitical Intelligence Group. The Academy GIG consists of 43 US and UK Admirals & Generals, former NASA Astronauts, and former CIA/FBI Leadership. Academy has been advising clients for over a decade and is the preeminent Advisory on geostrategic risk to the markets.

Lieutenant General Laura Potter retired from the United States Army in November 2025 after over 36 years of active-duty service as an intelligence officer. She assumed her final position as the Director of the Army Staff in January 2024, where she was involved in the daily global operations of the Army. Prior to that, she served as the Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2 (Intelligence), advising the Secretary of the Army and the Chief of Staff of the Army on intelligence, counterintelligence, security, and intelligence acquisition, while leading a global enterprise of more than 58,000 men and women. She previously commanded the Army’s Intelligence Center of Excellence at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, responsible for intelligence training, modernization, and innovation. Her overseas assignments included the Senior Intelligence Officer (J-2) for U.S. European Command.

“We are honored to welcome General Potter to the firm’s Advisory Board,” said Academy’s Chairman and CEO Chance Mims. “Her experience at the highest levels of Army intelligence and operations will provide valuable insight as we continue supporting our clients.”

General Potter commented on joining the firm: “There is nothing more important than ensuring decisionmakers understand the geopolitical environment in which they operate. I am very excited to join Academy Securities and to contribute to this very important endeavor.”

General Potter earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Russian from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and later received master’s degrees with distinction from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service Center for Russian and East European Studies and the Naval War College in National Security Strategy.

“General Potter’s career leading large and complex organizations across the Army makes her a strong addition to our Advisory Board,” said Academy’s Vice Chairman Phil McConkey.
