Advantech introduces new AI-based infection prevention solution

IoT intelligence systems and embedded platforms provider Advantech today announced the launch of its AI-based infection prevention solution labeled the Visitor Thermal Screening System.

The AI-based prevention solution aims to reduce the risk and spread of COVID-19 in high-traffic and heavily populated environments by using a combination of thermographic smart cameras, video AI facial recognition, and thermal screening.

The IoT intelligence systems and embedded platforms providers stated in the press release that the solution is capable of performing a quick scan of people who could be at risk and reducing waiting times for a diagnosis as a result and leading to potentially quicker testing.

Patrick Chen, a product management supervisor at Advantech explained how the Visitor Thermal Screening System can help in the fight against COVID-19 by saying: “During these unprecedented times, where COVID-19 data and guidelines are constantly in flux, Advantech’s Visitor Thermal Screening System is designed to guarantee companies are compliant and protected, while simultaneously reducing liability and ensuring the safety of employees and customers. The system’s unique design and cutting-edge AI-based technology provide the ideal solution for businesses looking to safely return to business as usual, without the need for time-intensive individual temperature checks in high-frequency environments.”

Thermal imaging has become a topic of discussion recently with its ability to detect symptoms of viruses which as a result lowers the risk of new infections and can potentially lower the rate of COVID-19 cases.

Only recently Insight announced that it’s going to use Intelligent Technology Solutions with the aim to detect symptoms and prevent the spread of viruses such as COVID-19 by combining data from a range of devices, cameras, and sensors.

Advantech has decades of experience to rely on along with a comprehensive product suite of more than 1,000 embedded and automation products, systems, and solutions at its disposal through their platforms.

The Taiwan-based IoT intelligence systems and embedded platforms provider has significantly grown since being founded in 1983 with the company claiming to have more than 8,000 team members working across 92 cities worldwide

The company works with a number of partners to enable them to provide edge-to-cloud solutions for a range of applications including smart cities, smart factories, and industrial and commercial IoT making their new AI-based infection prevention solution well equipped to integrate into existing partners and clients premises.

The IoT intelligence systems and embedded platforms provider explain that the Visitor Thermal Screening System is capable of measuring the human body temperate from a distance and quickly pinpoints individuals within a group of people who have abnormal temperatures.

The thermographic smart camera features a thermal sensor resolution of 160 x 120, a temperature range of 30°C to 45°C (86°F to 113°F) and temperature accuracy of ± 0.5°C. (± 0.9°F).

The IoT intelligence systems and embedded platforms provider claims that the products’ optical maximum resolution is 2,688 x 1,520 and can detect up to 30 faces at a time as well as accurately capturing the temperatures of people wearing masks.

Due to the AI capabilities, the Visitor Thermal Screening System can focus on human face measurements which as a result reduces false alarms made by other heat sources.

When a person with an elevated body temperate passes by the Visitor Thermal Screening System a strobe light and audio alarm notify operators immediately which makes the manager dashboard instantly send a notification to inform operators that they should receive second screening and fill in the actions for future tracking.

The thermal screening manager for the Visitor Thermal Screening System comes in three different versions with each one having additional benefits and premium capabilities.

The three models include Thermal Screen Manager Monitor which can be used for quick entrance checks and has four channels of camera monitoring; the Thermal Screen Manager Standard which can check and manage the event detected and has four channels of camera monitoring and recording while also being able to store video files; and the Thermal Screen Manager Pro which can be used to check and manage the event detected with facial recognition that again has four channels of camera monitoring, recording, and recognition while utilising video AI facial recognition edge.
