Exactech Debuts New Implant Technology with First-to-Market GPS Navigation for Ankle Surgery

GAINESVILLE, Fla., March 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Exactech, a global medical technology leader, announced first surgeries using its new Vantage® Ankle 3D and 3D+ tibial implants with GPS Ankle navigation, marking a significant advancement in total ankle replacement surgery. This is the first time these two products have been used together, offering surgeons a powerful combination of innovative technologies.

“We are excited to announce the first successful surgeries using our Vantage Ankle 3D and 3D+ tibial implants with our first-to-market GPS Ankle technology,” Devan Carter, Exactech Director of Foot & Ankle Marketing. “This integration represents a major step forward, providing surgeons with the real-time guidance and comprehensive implant technology necessary to enhance fixation and improve surgical precision for better patient outcomes.”

The Vantage® Ankle 3D and 3D+ tibial implants, combined with the GPS Ankle navigation system, offer several key advantages:

  • 3D-printed porous surface, spiked pegs and a sharp central cage, are designed to mimic natural bone structure and enhance initial fixation
  • Activit-E® advanced polyethylene, designed for superior strength and oxidative resistance
  • Tibial stem sizes range from 10mm to 30mm, including a low-profile option to provide surgical flexibility and increased options
  • Real-time navigation guidance with pre-clinical testing demonstrating accuracy within 2mm and 2 degrees relative to CT-based surgical planning1-3

Edward Haupt, M.D., who performed the first surgeries at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., commented, “The combination of the Vantage Ankle 3D and 3D+ implants with GPS Ankle provides surgeons with enhanced precision and flexibility. The system’s real-time guidance allows surgeons to place a stemmed implant, like the Vantage Ankle 3D+, without a large frame and reduces the reliance on fluoroscopy, helping to optimize the surgical workflow. GPS helps ensure accurate implant positioning and the 3D-printed tibial stems optimize fixation, offering a robust platform to address a variety of ankle replacement cases with confidence.”

Powered by Active Intelligence®, the GPS Ankle system is the world’s only navigation technology specifically designed for total ankle replacement surgery. Its integration with the Vantage Ankle portfolio of implants creates a comprehensive and innovative solution for ankle replacement surgery.
