What happened?
On or around June 13, 2025, WestJet detected suspicious activity within its network. An investigation revealed that a skilled third-party cybercriminal had gained unauthorized access to the company’s computer systems. The intruder was able to retrieve certain data, which may have included personal information such as names, dates of birth, mailing addresses, and travel document details (e.g., passport or other government-issued identification numbers).
Additional travel-related information—such as special accommodation requests or complaints filed—may also have been accessed. For WestJet Rewards members, compromised data could include their Rewards ID number, points balance as of the breach date, and other account-related details.
An estimated 1.2 million individuals have been affected by this data breach.
