Multi-cloud management software business BMC Software today announced plans to acquire American mainframe application development company Compuware Corporation through the signing of a definitive agreement.
The financial terms of this deal were not disclosed. Compuware was bought by private equity firm Thoma Bravo for USD $2.4bn in 2014.
With the two companies joining forces, they will be looking to bring mainframe into the mainstream as part of a modern IT infrastructure with a full-service solution integrating DevOps into their delivery and support solutions.
BMC has a history of investing in opportunities that would bring greater growth to its core offerings, but this transaction is to be one of the largest acquisitions in BMC’s history and the companies third acquisition in less than two years.
The combination of two businesses aims to help customers better manage their mainframe operations, cybersecurity, application development, data, and storage as part of their enterprise DevOps strategies.
The improved service will provide seamless integration of the mainframe platform development and management processes into the enterprise technology stack.
