AXA XL creates sustainable building practices benchmarking service for Construction clients in North America

NEW YORK, March 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — To help contractors evaluate their sustainable building practices against their industry peers, AXA XL launched its Sustainable Building Practices Adoption Maturity Index (SAMI) benchmarking service.

“Technological advancements, economic incentives and the need for more resiliency are driving the demand for more sustainable buildings and our construction clients are searching for the best ways to meet these demands,” said Cheri Hanes, AXA XL’s Head of Construction Innovation and Sustainability. “Benchmarking is an important tool for contractors because it allows them to compare their performance, practices, and results against industry standards and best practices. This helps them stay competitive, enhance efficiency, and ultimately improve their overall performance in the industry.”

“In their quest to adopt more sustainable building practices, our SAMI benchmarking can provide valuable insight to help our construction clients identify areas for improvement, set realistic goals, and measure their progress over time,” said Ms. Hanes. “Through available services like SAMI, we are committed to supporting our customers’ knowledge and adoption of sustainable building practices.” Ā

During a SAMI assessment, construction firms are evaluated on the implementation of their sustainable building practices. Areas assessed are actions within Builders’ control, and include carbon, health and wellness, waste management, water management, and materials. Following the assessment, they receive a personalized report which includes an overall SAMI score and individual scores across all categories. The report compares a contractor’s sustainable building practices adoption against current industry trends and a hand selected group of peers.

According to Ms. Hanes, year over year, the SAMI provides a roadmap for sustainable building practices advancement, tracking progress over time so clients can reach and remain at the cutting edge of construction sustainability.

AXA XL’s Construction Risk EngineeringĀ team partners with contractors to enhance their safety, operational performance, and profitability. In addition to SAMI benchmarking, other benchmarking services evaluate contractors’ technology adoption and contract review protocols. Ā Other Construction Risk Engineering services including driver & fleet safety programs, project consultation and assessments to identify safety, health, and general liability exposures; safety training, Builders Risk engineering risk surveys, and SDI Risk Engineering.
