CALGARY, AB, Sept. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Arolytics, a leading oil and gas emissions analytics and software company, has announced the launch of a new code-based method for methane inventories and reconciliation. Developed in collaboration with researchers Dr. Nadia Tarakki and Dr. Martin Lavoie at the FluxLab, a research group led by Dr. David Risk at St. Francis Xavier University, the method is designed to support the oil and gas sector in achieving transparent and statistically robust OGMP 2.0 Level 5 reporting.
The announcement marks the culmination of a year-long project funded by Mitacs.
The outcome is a United Nations Environment Programme OGMP 2.0-aligned approach that delivers an efficient, auditable, and scalable solution for reconciliation and Level 5 reporting.
“There is no single prescriptive method to conduct L5 inventory development and emissions reconciliation for OGMP 2.0. To address this, we worked with FluxLab to develop a code-based method that eliminates ambiguity. This statistics-informed approach can be scaled and repeated year-over-year, saving operators significant effort and cost on L5 reporting.”
— Liz O’Connell, CEO, Arolytics
“This approach helps cope with the integration of real-world measurements needed as part of higher-tier OGMP methods. The code-based methodology allows for automation and efficiency, but more importantly, enables a more statistically robust calculation.”
— Dr. David Risk, Research Chair in Climate Science and Policy, St. Francis Xavier University
A Structured, Transparent, and Scalable Approach
The Arolytics<>FluxLab method is based on the premise that neither measurements nor estimates alone provide a complete picture of methane emissions. To address this, the method is structured into a four-stage pipeline:
- Bias Correction and Scaling of measured datasets.
- Integration of Measured Emissions using a Hierarchical Bayesian Model to calculate a site-level inventory.
- Site-level inventory adjustments for sources not detected by measurements.
- An investigation into discrepancies between site and source-level inventories while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
In addition, the framework leverages statistical methods to avoid double-counting and other common pitfalls in emissions inventory calculations.
Key Benefits
- Alignment with OGMP 2.0 Level 5 reporting standards
- Statistics-based methodology for improved accuracy
- Compatible with multiple measurement technologies and operational metadata
- Designed for year-over-year reproducibility
- Transparent, traceable, and auditable
Arolytics has successfully delivered this framework for oil and gas companies, including supermajors, through short-term consulting engagements in which the code is run in-house by Arolytics experts. Licensing for in-house use is an option.

About Arolytics
Arolytics, powered by expert guidance and trusted software, is on a mission to enhance operational efficiency through strategic emissions management. Our flagship platform, AroViz, integrates operational data (e.g., SCADA) with emissions data to enable the detection, causation, duration, prioritization, and prediction of emission events. With a unique blend of industry expertise and emissions data specialization, we help oil and gas companies meet their environmental goals, comply with OGMP 2.0 standards, reduce costs, ensure regulatory compliance, and improve operational efficiency.
About FluxLab (St. Francis Xavier University)
Whether by foot, truck, drone, robot, plane, or satellite, FluxLab works to improve the measurement of greenhouse gases. We’re largely focused on energy and waste sector emissions, where we aim to provide information and solutions that will help North America’s energy and waste sectors achieve methane emission reductions.
