SenseNet Acquires N5 Sensors’ Fire Unit to Expand its AI-Powered Wildfire Detection Platform

The move represents a massive expansion effort for SenseNet in the US

As global fire seasons stretch longer and burn hotter, the climate tech sector is racing to catch up. The latest move comes from Vancouver-based SenseNet, which has acquired the wildfire detection business of N5 Sensors

The strategic carve-out aims to aggressively expand SenseNet’s AI-powered wildfire intelligence platform across the U.S., absorbing N5’s specialized hardware, its entire fire-focused team, and roster of over 30 federal and enterprise clients.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition represents a significant consolidation in the early-warning climate tech space. N5 Sensors will continue to operate its core defense and national security business independently, while SenseNet integrates N5’s Department of Homeland Security-backed gas sensing technologies into its own expansive software ecosystem.

The traditional method of wildfire detection, waiting for a human to spot a massive plume of smoke and call emergency services, is rapidly becoming obsolete. SenseNet is building what essentially acts as a multi-layered, planetary smoke alarm. By bringing N5’s proprietary hardware in-house, the company bolsters its ability to detect the chemical signatures of a fire during its smoldering phase, long before actual flames or heavy smoke are visible to the naked eye.

SenseNet’s unified command dashboard fuses this ground-level chemical data with a robust remote tech stack:

  • Long-Range AI Cameras: Continuous optical and thermal monitoring stretching across a 50-kilometer radius with solar power and automated night vision.
  • Orbital Intelligence: Satellite data mapping pre-fire fuel risks, live perimeter tracking, and post-fire burn severity.
  • Predictive AI: Algorithms that ingest over 30 environmental data sources to forecast smoke and fire spread up to seven days in advance.
  • Autonomous Drones & Weather Nodes: Real-time microclimate analysis and live aerial streaming from hazardous, hard-to-reach zones.

As one of the largest wildfire detection operators in Canada, SenseNet currently monitors more than 400 million acres of wildlands across 12 countries, including major deployments in the U.S., Australia, Chile, and Brazil.
