CanVeer Files International PCT Patent Application Supporting Global IP Strategy for Chronic Respiratory Conditions

CanVeer Biopharma Inc. (the “Company” or “CanVeer”), a preclinical biopharmaceutical company developing therapies for severe respiratory diseases with high unmet medical need, is pleased to announce the filing of its international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent application of its investigational new drug candidate AlveoShield™, marking an important milestone in strengthening the Company’s global intellectual property strategy for chronic respiratory conditions

The patent application, titled “METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR PREVENTING, ATTENUATING OR TREATING LUNG DISEASES AND/OR INJURY,” builds upon CanVeer’s previously filed United States provisional patent and supports the continued development of the Company’s proprietary therapeutic platform, including its lead investigational program, AlveoShield™.

The PCT application was formally submitted through the Canadian Intellectual Property Office acting as the Canadian Receiving Office. The filing establishes an international priority date and provides a strategic framework for pursuing patent protection across more than 150 participating jurisdictions worldwide, supporting CanVeer’s long-term commercialization and partnering strategy. The intellectual property underlying the application is owned by CanVeer.

CanVeer’s lead therapeutic candidate, AlveoShield™, is currently being developed as a potential first-in-class disease modifying therapy for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a severe respiratory condition affecting preterm newborns who require oxygen support at birth to survive. Currently there are no approved disease-modifying therapies for BPD in the clinic, putting over 150,000 preterm newborns annually in North America at risk of developing BPD, and suffering lifelong severe respiratory consequences.

CanVeer is also evaluating formulation and pulmonary delivery strategies to support future clinical translation and commercialization of AlveoShield™.

While the Company’s initial development focus is neonatal respiratory disease, the broader patent strategy strengthens potential future applications in additional respiratory conditions involving lung injury and inflammation.

IPON Support Strengthens Global IP Strategy

CanVeer was previously accepted into the Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) program, which enables Ontario companies advancing intellectual property protection and commercialization strategies. Under the program, CanVeer is eligible to receive up to CAD $300,000 in lifetime support, operating under an 80% provincial cost-sharing model for eligible intellectual property activities.

The support is positioned to help offset costs associated with international patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analyses, competitive IP landscaping, and commercialization-related legal activities.

Management Commentary

“The filing of our international PCT application represents an important milestone in CanVeer’s commercial strategy as we continue advancing AlveoShield™ towards the clinic,” said Sherif Louis, CEO of CanVeer. “Establishing international priority rights empowers our long-term objective of protecting the program and assures global market potential and exclusivity.”

“Support from IPON has played an important role in accelerating the development of our global intellectual property strategy,” said Behzad Yeganeh, CSO of CanVeer and co-inventor of the technology. “Combined with the guidance of our IP Counsel, SMART & BIGGAR, this PCT filing further strengthens the patent foundation supporting the future clinical and commercial development of AlveoShield™ and our broader respiratory therapeutic platform.”
