Two-Day Event Helps Educators Translate Literacy Data Into Action
SYRACUSE, N.Y., April 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Reading League (TRL), a national nonprofit advancing evidence-aligned reading instruction, is preparing to welcome educators from across the country to its 2026 Summit, From Confusion to Clarity: Turning Data Into Instructional Impact, taking place May 5–6, 2026, at The Oncenter in Syracuse, New York. The Summit brings together educators, researchers, policymakers, and leaders dedicated to understanding and using literacy data to improve student outcomes.
“Assessment should empower educators, not overwhelm them,” said Dr. Maria Murray, president and CEO of The Reading League. “When we understand what data truly tell us about student learning, we can make decisions that accelerate progress. This Summit is designed to ensure educators leave with clarity, confidence, and the tools to act.”
Turning Data Into Action
This year’s theme addresses one of the most pressing challenges in literacy education: understanding what assessments truly measure and how to translate results into effective instruction.
The Summit will feature a keynote from Dr. Christopher Schatschneider, associate director of the Florida Center for Reading Research, who will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of reading assessment and what makes assessments valid, reliable, and instructionally useful.
“Screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic assessment, and the science of reading itself all rely on measurement and assessment!” said Dr. Schatschneider. “It is the foundation of all that we do.”
New for 2026: Live, Hands-On Data Workshops
At this year’s Summit, participants will engage in interactive data workshops led by Adrea Truckenmiller and Anita Archer. Participants will work with real K–5 decoding and language comprehension data to understand what they reveal about student learning — and identify concrete instructional next steps.
Attendees will gain:
- A deeper understanding of literacy assessment tools
- Practical strategies for selecting and interpreting assessment tools
- Clear connections between assessment results and instructional planning
- A shared framework that teams can implement immediately
Registration is now open. Educators, administrators, and literacy leaders are encouraged to register early to secure their seats. To register and view the full agenda, please visit: thereadingleague.org/trl-summit.
Local and education media are invited to attend. Credential requests and interview opportunities with speakers and TRL leadership are available upon request.
