Andrew Ng

Andrew Ng is VP & Chief Scientist of Baidu; Co-Chairman and Co-Founder of Coursera; and an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University. 

In 2011, he led the development of Stanford University’s main MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) platform and also taught an online Machine Learning class to over 100,000 students, leading to the founding of Coursera.

Fei-Fei Li

Dr. Fei-Fei Li is the inaugural Sequoia Professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University, and Co-Director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute. She served as the Director of Stanford’s AI Lab from 2013 to 2018. Adam Coates

Adam Coates, a director at Apple received his PhD from Stanford University in 2012. Until 2017, Adam was the director of the Silicon Valley AI Lab at Baidu Research.

During his graduate career, he co-developed an autonomous aerobatic helicopter, worked on perception systems for early large-scale deep learning methods and household robots.

Jennifer Chayes

Jennifer Tour Chayes is Associate Provost of the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society, and Dean of the School of Information, at University of California, Berkeley. She is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Information, Statistics, and Mathematics.

Jennifer is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fields Institute, Association for Computing Machinery, American Mathematical Society, and Association of Women in Mathematics. Yann LeCun

Yann André LeCun  is the Vice President, Chief AI Scientist at Facebook. Not only that, he also is a French computer scientist working primarily in the fields of machine learning, computer vision, mobile robotics, and computational neuroscience. He is the Silver Professor of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.

Yann co-developed the Lush programming language with Léon Bottou. He is well known for his work on optical character recognition and computer vision using convolutional neural networks (CNN), and is a founding father of convolutional nets. He is also one of the main creators of the DjVu image compression technology

LeCun received the 2018 Turing Award (often referred to as “Nobel Prize of Computing”), together with Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton, for their work on deep learning. The three are sometimes referred to as the “Godfathers of AI” and “Godfathers of Deep Learning”.

LeCun is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering, the recipient of the 2014 IEEE Neural Network Pioneer Award and the 2015 PAMI Distinguished Researcher Award.

Kate Crawford 

Kate Crawford is a leading scholar of the social and political implications of AI. With over 20 years of experience, her work has focused on understanding large scale data systems, AI and machine learning in the wider contexts of history, politics and the environment. Her latest book is Atlas of AI (Yale 2021).

She is a Research Professor of Communication and the STS at USC Annenberg, a Senior Principal Researcher at MSR-NYC, and the inaugural Visiting Chair for AI and Justice at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris.

In 2021, she will be the Miegunyah Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and has been appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney.

Rachel Thomas

Rachel Thomas is currently the founding director of the USF Centre for Applied Data Ethics, whose objective is to address harms such as surveillance, disinformation, algorithmic bias, and other misuses of data.

Jürgen Schmidhuber

Jürgen Schmidhuber isthe Director & Professor at The Swiss AI Lab IDSIA – USI & SUPSI and also the Co-Founder & Chief Scientist, NNAISENSE. His lab’s Deep Learning Neural Networks based on ideas published in the “Annus Mirabilis” 1990-1991 have revolutionised machine learning and AI.

By the mid-2010s, they were on 3 billion devices, and used billions of times per day through users of the world’s most valuable public companies, e.g., for greatly improved (CTC-LSTM-based) speech recognition on all Android phones, greatly improved machine translation through Google Translate and Facebook (over 4 billion LSTM-based translations per day), Apple’s Siri and Quicktype on all iPhones, the answers of Amazon’s Alexa, and numerous other applications.

 In 2011, his team was the first to win official computer vision contests through deep neural nets, with superhuman performance. In 2012, they had the first deep NN to win a medical imaging contest (on cancer detection). All of this attracted enormous interest from industry. His research group also established the fields of mathematically rigorous universal AI and recursive self-improvement in metalearning machines that learn to learn (since 1987).

Jürgen is recipient of numerous awards, author of over 350 peer-reviewed papers, and Chief Scientist of the company NNAISENSE, which aims at building the first practical general-purpose AI. He is a frequent keynote speaker, and advising various governments on AI strategies.
