Tukwila, Washington Leads the State in Tax Modernization with the OpenGov Public Service Platform

City becomes Washington’s first to implement OpenGov Tax & Revenue Collection, taking a major step toward long-term fiscal stability and full ERP transformation

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The City of Tukwila is the first in Washington to adopt OpenGov Tax & Revenue Collection, powered by OpenGov, the leader in AI and ERP solutions for local and state governments. With OpenGov, the City expects to reclaim more than 150 hours per budget cycle. Beyond the staff time savings, the shift will provide real-time transparency, empower staff, and reduce the risk tied to succession planning.

The City’s decision reflects infrastructure demands to support its 21,000 and counting residents. More than 150,000 people travel through Tukwila daily, placing additional strain on services and facilities. City leaders implemented a Business & Occupation tax to address this growing gap.

Tukwila turned to OpenGov to provide a cloud-based Tax & Revenue Collection software purpose-built for local government. The solution is automated, auditable, and scalable—eliminating manual paper filings, disconnected spreadsheets, and fragile workflows. In addition to launching this first-of-its-kind, square-footage-based Business & Occupation tax system, the City will implement OpenGov Budgeting & Performance, including Capital, Workforce, and Performance modules, plus a digital interactive Budget Book. Both solutions will integrate with Tukwila’s existing CentralSquare Financials platform and go live in early 2026.

“At OpenGov, we invest in our platform to meet the real-world challenges of government agencies. Tax & Revenue Collection is one of our emerging product lines and Tukwila is taking forward-thinking steps that will benefit its community for years to come,” said Eric DiProspero, chief revenue officer at OpenGov. “This critical capability will strengthen how cities serve their residents and manage essential revenue streams. Their leadership is defining what modernization looks like in Washington State.”

“We needed more than just new software—we needed a partner to help us build for the future,” said Aaron BeMiller, finance director for the City of Tukwila. “OpenGov understood our challenges from day one. Now, we have a solution that will not only help to stabilize revenue, but also strengthen our team and increase transparency with our residents.”

Tukwila joins more than 2,000 state and local governments that rely on the OpenGov Public Service Platform to operate more efficiently, adapt to change, and deliver more to the communities they serve. Learn more about OpenGov Tax & Revenue Collection.
