Ground–breaking shelter–availability platform expands nationwide as the prospect of federal funding cuts leaves advocates scrambling for beds.
CHICAGO and WASHINGTON, July 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As domestic violence services providers are facing the prospect of significant federal grant cuts that have already triggered layoffs and service cuts at victim–service agencies across the United States, ReloShare today announced it will provide 12 months of free access to its national shelter–sharing network, The Grove, for every domestic violence, sexual assault, and human–trafficking shelter program in the country. This no-cost initiative was inspired by calls to action from the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), whose long-standing advocacy for innovation in the field urged ReloShare to remove financial barriers to access at this pivotal moment.
“Advocates tell us they lose hours-and sometimes days-ringing dozens of shelters before finding space,” said Matt Singley, Co–Founder & CEO of ReloShare. “By opening The Grove for free at this critical moment, we’re giving agencies those hours back-time they can use in what matters the most: Supporting and protecting survivors rather than navigating logistical hurdles.”
Urgent need, growing gap
- NNEDV’s 2024 Domestic Violence Counts survey recorded 14,095 unmet requests in a single day; 60 percent were for emergency shelter or housing.
- Calls to the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline jumped 26 percent last year, driven largely by the scarcity of safe housing.
- Federal uncertainty has many shelters bracing for additional staff cuts and bed closures.
How The Grove changes the equation
- Nationwide, real–time inventory of beds in shelters, transitional housing, and overflow hotels.
- De–identified referrals that protect program locations and survivor identities.
- Search–once, see everywhere functionality that collapses a multi–day phone marathon into minutes.
- Data add-ons that reveal geographic gaps and seasonal spikes-insight the field has never had.
“Since the Illinois Hotline adopted The Grove statewide last September, our team has gone from calling 10–15 shelters per day to finding available shelter space in under 10 minutes,” said Amanda Pyron, President & CEO of The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence, which operates the Illinois hotline. “In a funding climate where every staff hour counts, that’s transformational.”
From annual snapshots to real–time insight
For nearly two decades, NNEDV’s Domestic Violence Counts report has documented that emergency housing is the number–one unmet need for survivors. While the one–day survey is a powerful advocacy tool, The Grove will-for the first time-generate a live, national picture of bed availability, revealing where and when shortages are most acute. These analytics will help coalitions, funders, and policymakers target resources faster and more accurately than ever before.
“Every year, our Domestic Violence Counts survey captures a powerful one-day snapshot of the crisis: thousands of survivors who can’t access services because no safe bed was available. By pairing that annual picture with The Grove’s continuous, real–time feed, we can help coordinate logistics and ease the process of finding available beds.
This partnership makes it easier for advocates to locate available beds in real time, streamlines the process of finding safe shelter, and helps coalitions and funders understand where the gaps are. At a time when every dollar must stretch further, generous support of The Grove delivers visibility and coordination to better support survivors and close the housing gap.”- Stephanie Love-Patterson, President & CEO, National Network to End Domestic Violence.
