OPTERRA Energy Services Named as Finalist for NAESCO Project of Year

Broward County project recognized for its infrastructure improvement and modernization of public facilities

OAKLAND, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#browardcountyOPTERRA Energy Services announced today that its project with long-time customer Broward County, Florida, has been selected as a finalist for the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO) “Project of the Year” Award, recognizing outstanding achievements in energy efficiency and public infrastructure modernization.

Focused on public libraries, parks, transit hubs, and government buildings, Broward County’s project serves as a model for how local governments can modernize essential facilities while advancing climate goals. Through more than $6.5 million in upgrades, the initiative has strengthened infrastructure, improved energy efficiency, and delivered long-term operational savings.

“Our project work with Broward County reflects our commitment to building strong and lasting partnerships, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle,” said Courtney Jenkins, CEO of OPTERRA Energy Services. “With ongoing collaboration and a shared vision to positively impact the more than two million residents of Broward County, our comprehensive energy plan ensures that the County’s projected energy savings are achieved and sustained for decades to come.”

Working with OPTERRA, the County took a strategic, cost-justified approach to selecting efficiency and modernization upgrades that directly support its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent from 2007 levels by 2050. Key upgrades included new HVAC systems, advanced lighting, solar energy generation, and building automation. Additional improvements, such as programmable thermostats, water conservation measures, and enhanced building envelopes, reduce energy use on site, while creating safer, more comfortable public spaces for residents and community members across the County.

“The NAESCO Member Award Finalists’ projects demonstrate the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in modernizing infrastructure and delivering measurable value to communities. They reflect the innovation and technical expertise that define our members’ contributions to the built environment,” said Dr. Timothy Unruh, Executive Director, National Association of Energy Service Companies.

NAESCO is the nation’s leading advocacy and accreditation organization for Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), dedicated to modernizing America’s building infrastructure through performance contracting.
