Landmark gift completes $2.1M campaign, making LuskinOIC the only pediatric facility in downtown Los Angeles with on-site MRI
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#CommunityImpact–The Everychild Foundation has awarded Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) a transformative $1 million grant to purchase the Institute’s first MRI unit—marking the first seven-figure foundation grant in the nonprofit’s 114-year history.
This extraordinary gift completes LuskinOIC’s $2.1 million campaign to bring state-of-the-art imaging technology to the children it serves. The new MRI unit, designed specifically for pediatric patients, is expected to be installed and operational by 2026 in the newly constructed Everychild Foundation MRI Suite.
Once installed, the Everychild Foundation MRI will make LuskinOIC the only pediatric orthopaedic facility in downtown Los Angeles with an MRI machine on campus—dramatically improving access for the more than 90% of its patients who are underinsured or rely on Medi-Cal. Currently, families face average wait times of 2.5 months (75 days) to access imaging at off-site locations. The on-site MRI will reduce wait times to 0-2.5 days, and over its 30-year lifespan, will eliminate more than 4.2 million days of waiting for children.
“We’re deeply grateful to the women of Everychild Foundation for this $1 million grant, the capstone that takes our MRI facility all the way to the finish line,” said Dr. Anthony Scaduto, President and CEO of LuskinOIC. “This investment will directly impact the lives of countless children by providing state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging right here where they need it. We’re honored by this partnership and excited about what it means for the future of pediatric care in our community.”
“It is an extraordinary privilege for Everychild Foundation to help LuskinOIC fill this very critical unmet need,” stated Jacqueline Caster, Founder and President of Everychild Foundation. “Without MRI services on premises, their patients have been forced to endure untenable waits to be seen at off-site locations, jeopardizing not just their recovery, but, in some cases, even their lives. No longer! This grant will make an enormous difference for the children of Los Angeles.”
The partnership underscores LuskinOIC’s century-long mission to expand access to expert orthopaedic care for children, regardless of financial circumstances. Through its alliance with UCLA Health, LuskinOIC serves more than 60,000 patient visits annually and extends its impact globally through pro bono programs in Calexico, Mexicali, and beyond.
LuskinOIC’s $2.1 million MRI campaign was supported by numerous donors and community partners, with the Everychild Foundation’s $1 million commitment serving as the capstone gift that made the project possible. Everychild Foundation’s vision and generosity ensure that the Everychild Foundation MRI Suite will stand as a lasting symbol of healing, innovation, and hope for generations to come.
