Tee Times builds on last year’s runner-up finish and bests Golfplay to win $300,000 prize
CHANTILLY, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–GOLFZON announced that Tee Times (Detroit) defeated Golfplay (Toronto) 4 & 3 in the finals of GOLFZON Tour Season 2, winning the $300,000 prize purse. Tee Times outlasted 72 teams from around the world to claim the second Tour Championship.
Last year’s runners-up were two down through five holes in the 3-on-3 aggregate stroke-play championship match on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island before winning five of the next six holes to take a commanding lead.
“We were more motivated this year since we were so close to getting it done last year,” said Tee Times’ Brandon Barrows. “We were down two in the semifinals and brought it back. It was the same thing in this match, got off to a bad start, but got on a roll starting on the 12th hole. The fact that we got it done this year is awesome.”
Tee Times’ season was filled with momentum-building milestones. Barrows won the July individual competition with a score of -17 at The Ocean Course at Hokuala while the team’s -85 total score earned them medalist honors during the qualifying stage of the competition. In the semifinals, Tee Times faced Golf Envy, the defending champions, and exacted revenge after last year’s finals loss, winning the match 2 & 1.
“Tee Times is a deserving champion for GOLFZON Tour Season 2. Their exceptional play throughout all stages of the competition lifted them above a deeply competitive international field,” said Dean Schneider, Director of GOLFZON Competitions. “Season 2 of the GOLFZON Tour expanded in both international reach and innovative technology. The use of GOLFZON’s Network Play functionality allowed the competition to expand from 12 to 72 teams while facilitating real-time matches across continents. We look forward to bringing further innovation to Season 3 to make it the best iteration of the competition yet.”
Season 2 of the GOLFZON Tour featured 72 participating teams from across the world. The Tour extends GOLFZON’s success with the company’s GTour events in Korea, which have distributed more than $12 million in prizes.
