New book offers 365 daily reflections connecting ancient Scripture with contemporary faith
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Author, scholar and podcast host Chad Bird will release a new devotional, “Untamed Prayers: 365 Daily Devotions on Christ in the Book of Psalms”, published by 1517 Publishing. The collection offers a full year of Christ-centered meditations that guide readers through the Psalms with spiritual depth and emotional honesty.
Bird, a Scholar in Residence at 1517 and co-host of the 40 Minutes in the Old Testament podcast, wrote the devotional to help Christians pray more freely and faithfully, especially in seasons marked by grief, struggle, or silence.
He is a distinguished speaker and best-selling author, renowned for his contributions to Old Testament studies and his compelling personal story of redemption. Over the years, Bird has served as a pastor, professor, and guest lecturer. He holds master’s degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College, and is recognized for his ability to translate biblical scholarship for everyday faith.
“The Psalms teach us to abandon safe, religiously G-rated prayers for Psalms full of verve and vivacity, sobs and screams, deep meditation and raucous joy,” Bird said. “They invite us to speak to our Father with all-out honesty, in the bright and dark seasons of life.”
Each devotion explores how the Psalms invite readers into deeper communion with God through joy, lament, hope and praise. The reflections are written for both individual use and community settings, making the book ideal for congregational study, liturgical seasons such as Lent or Advent, or as a pastoral care resource.
“Untamed Prayers” is especially suited for:
- Church members seeking a structured devotional practice rooted in Scripture
- Those navigating hardship, transition or spiritual dryness
- Small groups and lay leaders exploring honest prayer and emotional discipleship
- Pastors, deacons and spiritual directors looking for fresh devotional tools
The devotional is grounded in Bird’s empathy, theological clarity and training. He is known for writing with vulnerability, biblical fluency and a deep appreciation for the church’s scriptural traditions.
The book will be released September 30, 2025, from 1517 Publishing and is available now at 1517.org.
