Femme-fronted event brings music, podcasting, and โAll Things Audioโ to Atlanta
ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#banjee–Billboard Hot 100 R&B artist Cheri Dennis (I Love You, Portrait of Love) is set to hit the stage at Banjee Boombox ATL, coming to Buckhead Art & Co on August 3, 2025, in honor of James Baldwinโs birthday. The femme-led cultural event celebrates women, gender-expansive, and queer creatives with an afternoon of sound, storytelling, and social impact.
After two successful runs in New York City, Banjee Boombox makes its Atlanta debut in partnership with AfroCROWD, Afros & Audio, The Black Podcasters Association, and IKE Smart City. From 5-8 PM, attendees can expect a live performance by Cheri Dennis, a podcast village, a music licensing panel, silent disco, and more.
โOur goal is joy,โ says co-founder Faybeoโn Mickens aka DJ LiKWUiD, a U.S. State Department Global Music Diplomacy artist. โBy celebrating ourselves and sharing tools, we aim to empower artists to network, build partnerships, mobilize fans, and create sustainable futures. Joy is protest!โ
Co-founder DJ Mary Mac (Madonnaโs tour DJ) adds, โWeโre not just advancing artists for cultural change; weโre building community for social change.โ
A key addition this year is the Podcast Village, curated by Talib Jasir (Afros & Audio) and Corey Gumbs (Black Podcasters Association), featuring 10 QT/BIPOC podcast hosts. โThis collaboration is about creating space that honors identity, amplifies culture, and connects community through sound and experience,โ says Jasir.
Key guests and appearances include Keisha TK Dutes (Buzzfeed, NPR, Slate, AIR), Jasmin Benward (NAM, Madden Flow Entertainment, Create the Room), DJ Toni K (Afrobeats/Amapiano), Kia Barnes (Atlanta Public Schoolโs LGBTQ Taskforceโs Curriculum and Policy Board, LGBTQ Advisory Board), Queue Points Podcast (Ambie Nominee, Black Podcasting Award) and more.
